We had a lovely day with mild temps and sunshine this week. The first time in months! It’s incredible how much it lifts our spirits to have a break from grey skies, cold, and rain. According to the calendar, I’m overdue to start spring cleaning. Now that the weather has shifted, I’m ready to do some. More specifically, I’m ready to clean out clutter. In my home and in my mind, too.
I have an odd enthusiasm for cleaning out closets (drawers work for me, too).
I may enjoy this menial chore more than the average person. But I do think getting rid of old or unflattering clothes or useless stuff can be therapeutic for just about anyone.
Time for Spring Cleaning
So, if there’s stuff in your closet that reminds you of a bad fashion choice or buying decision, or that makes you feel less than your best every time you put it on. Or that no longer fits the body you live in every day – TOSS IT! If you have 3 vegetable peelers, 3 crock pots, 3 sets of sheets for the twin size bed you no longer own, Donate, Donate, Donate. Less stuff = fewer decisions = less stress.
Once you’ve cleaned out your clothes, consider treating yourself to a few versatile fashion purchases that go with everything, and flatter every body shape. It’s a life saver to have a few outfits in the closet that you are 100% confident in, every time you put them on.
Now for Spring Cleaning of the mind.
I like to think of spring cleaning as being about more than organizing or getting rid of unnecessary physical stuff. Many of us probably share the view that spring is a time of renewal. A time where new things grow and germinate. And beautiful things result. So, let’s apply the same intentional effort to cleaning out more than our closets.
Let’s try to get rid of ideas, thoughts, beliefs, and habits that no longer serve us.
We’ve talked about the power of positivity and visualization and some ways to stimulate those behaviors. Today let’s think about making space for all that new-found optimism and positivity. Our heads are crowded with so much.
What’s in your mind that prevents positivity from taking root and blooming?
Is there anger you need to overcome?
Grudges you need to release.
Mistakes you have made that you need to forgive.
Lingering bitterness over some past break-up?
Now that it’s truly the season, let’s get passionate about spring cleaning of all kinds. Let’s own it. Begin our own amazing growing season. Clean out the cobwebs and thoughts we have outgrown or need to say good-bye to. Make room to notice things we may have passed by in the past.
Let’s open our eyes wide and see all the beauty that surrounds us.
Not just colorful flowers, green grass, and blue skies; but the goodness in everyone, including ourselves.
Please comment and share your hopes and dreams for the coming weeks and months.
What do you hope to release as you enjoy some healthy spring cleaning? What do you hope to let in? How will you care for yourself to ensure you are at your best?
