Explore the memories of your favorite games, hobbies, or creative endeavors.
How did they make you feel?
How can you incorporate elements of these activities into your life now to reconnect with your inner child’s spirit and bring more joy to your present-day routine?
2. What were my dreams and aspirations as a child?
As children, we often dream big, imagining endless possibilities for our lives.
Take this opportunity to tap into those dreams and aspirations you had as a child.
What did you dream of becoming?
What goals and dreams did you have?
Reflect on how these childhood dreams align with your current passions and desires.
Are there any dreams you want to revive or pursue?
3. What were my favorite books, movies, or stories as a child?
Books, movies, and stories hold a special place in our hearts, shaping our imagination and worldview.
Recall the books or movies that captured your imagination as a child.
What were the themes or characters that resonated with you?
How did they inspire you?
Reflecting on these stories can reveal deeper insights into your values, interests, and personal development.
4. What were my favorite places in nature as a child?
Many of us have fond memories of playing outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Journal about the places in nature that resonated with your younger self.
Was it a park, a backyard, or a nearby forest?
Maybe it was days spent with family on the beach?
Connect with those memories, exploring the sights, sounds, and smells that left an impression on you.
How can you incorporate more of these natural experiences into your adult life?
Next, lets’ dig a little deeper – beyond memories. Let’s begin to explore the emotions and needs you experienced as a child.
Ask yourself:
5. What emotions did I experience most often as a child?
Children experience a vast range of emotions, often unrestricted by societal pressures or responsibilities.
Recall the different emotions you felt as a child.
Were there specific emotions that stood out?
How did they manifest in your life?
Explore how these emotions may still influence you today and how you can nurture and acknowledge them in healthier ways.
6. What did I need most from the adults in my life as a child?
Children have essential emotional needs, including love, safety, and affection.
Reflect on what you needed most from the adults in your life during your childhood.
Did you receive these needs?
How did it impact you then, and how does it affect you now?
Were there issues, experiences, or trauma from your childhood that you have not completely processed?
Consider ways to re-parent and provide yourself with the love and support you longed for as a child.
7. What lessons can my inner child teach my adult self?
Our inner child has much wisdom and insight to offer.
Envision a conversation with your inner child and ask for their guidance.
What advice do they have for your present self?
What lessons or reminders can they impart?
Write down their responses and reflect on how you can integrate this wisdom into your life.
