How to Make Positive Thinking Work for You

Much has been written about the power of positive thinking. A well-known quote describes how the impact of positive thinking extends far beyond our thoughts. It goes something like this: “Watch your thoughts, for they become your words; watch your words, for they become your actions; you must watch your actions, for they become your habits; and watch your habits, for they become your values; last, watch your values, for they define your destiny.”

This quote (or variations of it) have been attributed to a variety of people including Margaret Thatcher and Mahatma Gandhi.

Whoever said it, and however it was said, it’s a great reminder of how powerful our thoughts can be, and therefore, how powerful WE truly are.

Because we CAN control our thoughts, if we set our minds to it.

And our thoughts shape so much.

So, let’s dive into more on the power of positive thinking, and figure out how to make positive thinking work for you today.

Harness the Power of Positive Thinking Today

Our Thoughts Are Powerful

They decide if we will start a new project, take a walk, have a pleasant or worrisome day, or sleep peacefully. Our thinking also dictates how we act when given an opportunity to be kind, aloof, judgmental, or friendly. And, yes, our thoughts are 100% within our control, if we take care to guide them.

Embracing this idea can change the way we think, feel, and act, forever.

Something that can amplify the power of our thoughts is the practice of “mindfulness” – or being truly present in the moment. Experiencing what is happening as it is happening.

Today’s world, full of distractions, makes it difficult to do this. But taming our thoughts, becoming more disciplined in our attention, and vividly experiencing life’s events as they unfold can illuminate many joyful moments we would otherwise overlook.

Positive Thinking and Mindfulness

So, let’s combine these two independently powerful ideas and blow the doors off the idea that says our present and future are destined to be less than we want them to be. Let’s agree that we have the power to guide our thoughts and we also have the power to live mindfully. Which means we have all we need to make positive thinking work for us, now.

Let’s accept these two facts and integrate them into our lives and watch how incredibly joyful our days become.

We will experience every moment as a new adventure with a backdrop of positive thoughts. And every adventure as a step towards our destiny; a destiny which we define through the power of our own thinking.

With so many things in life beyond our control, it is comforting to realize one basic premise. We decide how we think, and when and how to re-direct our thoughts. How about if we all commit to take control of our thoughts today?

Make Positive Thinking Work for You Today

Let’s all choose our words well – the words we say to others, as well as those we say to ourselves. May we also commit to be thoughtful, purposeful and focused in our actions. And let’s practice what we are passionate about, so it becomes a habit.

Soon, we will be living the destiny we thought was only a dream.

It all starts with thought. Believe it, and soon, it will be so.

  1. Another thing I feel about positive thinking is that one needs to be persistent. There are bad days when I do not not think positively but I remind myself that the next day will be good and try my best to remain positive about it. Insightful post!
